Mrs. Portia Izu-Joseph, the wife of the murdered defender of Shooting Stars of Ibadan Football Club, Mr. Joseph Izu, has demanded justice from the government over the murder of her husband by a team of soldiers in Okarki Community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Portia said her husband was killed unjustly by soldiers and that those behind the killing must be brought to book.

She said: “I need justice on the murder of my husband. My husband came home to see me and our little daughter only to go to the waterside to swim in the water and they killed him.

“They killed him for nothing, he was not a criminal. All I want from the government is that they should give me justice. I have been made a widow.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Izu Ruben Martin, the father of Joseph has cried that his efforts to make his son a football star has yielded sorrow.

Martin who spoke to Vanguard at the family house in Port Harcourt stated that the wife and relative of Joseph are in pain over the dead.

Martin said: “I was expecting much from him in this career because I invested a lot of money to make him what he was. He had been abroad for trials and had been doing well.

There was a green light now before this thing happened. He told me that he would soon be playing big and good soccer. “A lot of clubs have been calling that they would need him soon.

Even Rangers was showing interest. I was expecting that he would have played in the Super Eagles soon.

After I have spent much I am reaping sorrow and mourning. I am in pain that I am the one burying my son.

“The government should place a serious control on the military in terms of the use of their ammunition.

The way they use the weapon they were given to protect the lives of Nigerian is against the ethic of their profession.

What they do now is to carry out jungle justice without arresting a suspect and investigating matters before carrying out action.

They should be educated on how to handle civilian matters.”
