TURNAH-PONDI: BUILDING A SYNERGY IN DEVELOPING FOOTBALL TALENTS IN NIGER DELTA

Barr. Alabh speaking after a friendly match between the George Turnah FC and the Julius Pondi FC organised by the George Turnah Foundation at the Kolo Township Stadium in Kolo Town, Bayelsa State on Sunday penultimate week has tasked leaders to support the development of young talents.

In reiterating his commitment for the development of young footballers within Bayelsa and indeed Niger Delta, he posits  “few years from now, we will start watching them on the screen,” pledging that “we will make our people and our place what and how we want it to be.” Turnah.

He however, promised to within the limits of his abilities, support talented Ijaw youths and hinted his desire to partner with other leaders to host the Ijaw Nation’s Cup in 2017.

Rt. Hon. Pondi on his part, maintains that there was need for leaders in Ijaw to instil the culture of talents development, adding that its gains cannot be overemphasized as it serves as a unifying factor while commending George Turnah for his alleged immense contributions in the development of Bayelsa state.

It would be recalled that Hon. Pondi had few months ago hosted the Julius Pondi Peace Cup in Burutu Federal Constituency, being his primary area of assignment in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State with the intent of taking football to the grassroots for further development.

Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper gathered that the friendly football match between the George Turnah FC and the Julius Pondi FC ended with a 1-0 victory for the George Turnah FC.

The ceremony was hugely attended by the creme de la creme of the Ijaw nation, prominent among them are the Agholo of Agholo, King N. D Amakuro; the chief whip of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Isenah; the caretaker chairman of Ogbia Local Government Area, Hon. Ebi Egai; the Head of Service of Bayelsa State and one time board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Peter Singabel; the caretaker chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Hon. Joshua Maciva; Mr. Ebi Egbe; Hon. Albenny Robert and  among others.
