SCORES INJURED AS MILITARY BOMBS OKOSUGBENE FISHING CAMP IN DELTA

BURUTUFollowing the hunt for militants in the creeks of Niger Delta, Scores of Okosugbene fishing camp dwellers also known as 9000 in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have been reported to have sustained injuries in a tense gun battle today between troops of the Nigerian military, Operation Delta Safe and alleged militants following the aerial bombardment that was said to have lasted for an hour.

A source who pleaded anonymity disclosed to Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper, maintains that the military and militants engaged in a heavy gun battle with two fighter jets and about seven heavily armed gun boats for nearly an hour on Thursday morning at about 6.00am.

Commenting further on the military raid, an information obtained in confidence reveals that the military bombardment on the fishing camp have led many injured but however stated that no death have been recorded so far.

In his words : “Okosugbene is a finishing camp that have been in existence many years ago, it is not a militant camp as peddled by some media outfits, this morning raid by the military saw the gunning of little children, ranging from the ages of 3 to 5 years on one hand and aged women was also received injuries, our source of livelihood has been completely destroyed as it has created unabated tension among communities within the area” He said.

Meanwhile the story is not different in Sandfield II, Warri Corner in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State as the military has been reported to have shot sporadically into the air leading to not fewer than five persons sustaining bullet injuries.

Confirming the incident, a caller who identified herself as Madam Cecilia from the said Warri Corner, disclosed to our correspondent that the sporadic shooting of the military have led to the injury of no fewer than five persons as a building was alleged to have been fractured by the heavy gunshots this evening.

According to her, ” We are now living in fear as we don’t know what could have precipitated this serial attacks on our peaceful communities, about five persons have sustained severe bullet injuries and have been rushed to hospitals, a block building was also touched and fractured by the heavy bullets, this is indeed so scary ” Cecilia said.

However, shedding light on the raid, a senior operative of the Department of State Security, DSS, said: “There were intelligence reports that suspected militants are converging on the area.

“Troops from the Operation Safe Delta were drafted to engage the militants and dislodge the camp located at an area known as 9000 Junction,” he said.
