The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh have stated that beneficiaries in the scheme will no longer have to wait before receiving their training allowances.
The amnesty boss made the pledge today while commending the ex agitators for their conducts in the rivers re-run elections in the state penultimate week.
Brig. Boroh made the pledge through his media consultant, Owei Lakemfa in a statement while warning that being part of the amnesty programme does not in any way grant beneficiaries to evade justice should they commit any crime.
The statement also distanced itself from having anything to do with one General Eagle, a suspected illegal bunker, pipeline vandal and an alleged kidnapper as not an ex militant associated with the amnesty office.
“The Presidential Amnesty Office wishes to state that one Justice Golubo alias ‘General Eagle’ suspected to be the leader of a gang responsible for vandalism of oil facilities, illegal bunkering and kidnapping is not an ex-militant.
“He should therefore, not be associated with the Amnesty Office nor militancy in the Niger Delta. No such person exist in the data base of the Presidential Amnesty Office nor is he part of the Amnesty Programme.
“It is not uncommon for suspects to claim to be part of the Amnesty Programme, hoping this way to escape justice or mitigate whatever punishment may be due to them. The Amnesty Office believes that every crime should attract commensurate punishment irrespective of claims by suspects. In any case, being a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, is no immunity for any post-Amnesty crime committed.
“While commending the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe for arresting the suspect and his gang, the Presidential Amnesty Office appeals to the mass media to please crosscheck any such claims by suspects before publication.” Owei stated.
In another development, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh has applauded the 30,000 beneficiaries of the Programme for refusing to be coopted into any violence during the December 10, 2016 electoral rerun in Rivers State. He advised them to continue to shun violence no matter the temptation they are subjected to reiterating that any of them who engages in violence, would be exited from the Programme and lose whatever entitlement or empowerment package might be due them.
General Boroh also commended the Amnesty beneficiaries for their understanding in the face of delays in the payment of their stipends or In-Training-Allowances promising that they will not have long to wait before all arrears are cleared.
