Unity Between The Ijaws And The Itsekiris, My Utmost Interest – Comr. Mulade

The Chairman of Kokodiagbene community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Comr. Sheriff Mulade has declared that seeing the Ijaws and the Itsekiris coexist was the secret behind the Unity Cup he recently organized.

He stated this in a chat with GbaramtuVoice correspondent after the final whistle which signal the end of the game.

According to him, the purpose of the tournament which he tagged; ‘Peace and Unity Cup 2017 Tournament’ is to sustain the existing peace hence the decision to organise the tournament in the coastal area.

In his words, “The purpose of the tournament was to sustain the existing peace hence the decision to organise the tournament in the coastal area. 

“I also use this medium to call on well-meaning Deltans to sponsor such initiative, not only in Warri South West, but across Delta State and Nigeria at large.”

The competition which took place in the community before a gathering of spectators saw two local teams; Kokodiagbene Football Club, the host team, and Ago-nla Football Club from Ilaje community ended in favour of Kokodiagbene Football Club.

Speaking to our correspondent after the tournament, Chief Favour Izoukumor opined that the tournament would bring about harmony between the Ijaws and its neighbours.

In the same vein, the Delta South PDP Chairman, Prince Emman expressed joy over the development and urged the communities to continue in this way of coexisting peacefully.

On his part, the Chairman of Warri South West Council, Hon. George Ekpemupolo shared his appreciation to the organisers for holding such a event. 

The ex-international and former Super Eagles player, Edema Fuludu, on his part, applauded the performance of both teams and called for such a tournament to be sustained for talents to be discovered.

Dignitaries in attendance during the tournament are; Prince Emman Amgbaduba, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta South; Kenneth Nwaomucha, Chairman, Youth Sports Federation Of Nigeria (YSFON), and member, Delta Football Association (DFA).

Others are Sule U. Danladi, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Superintendent; Chief Favour Izoukumor, Commissioner Representing Ijaw Ethnic Nationalities in Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC); Comr. Jude Ebitimi Ukori, Chairman, Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF).
