Desire to empower the youths, my driving force – Hon. Pondi

A member, representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Julius Pondi has stated that his resolve to sponsor the annual football competition was informed by his burning desire to empower the youths.

He made this known on Sunday 19th November, 2017 in Ekpan, Delta state at the unveiling and draws of the second edition of Honourable Julius Pondi Peace Cup.

In his words, “The underlying reason for the vision of a yearly inter-ward football competition is propelled by my burning desire to promote sports in the grassroots.”

He also explained that he also used the programme as a strategy for youth empowerment adding that football will remain a very good tool for promoting peace, unity, as well as identify and develop local football talents in Burutu Federal Constituency.

In the area of education, Honourable Pondi stressed that as part of his desire to encourage education in rural areas especially in Burutu Federal Constituency, he has decided to focus on critical areas which he named as Mathematics and English.

Pondi further explained that he had through his Foundation, the Julius Pondi Foundation, provided 2,000 customized Past Questions and Answers Booklets which he believe will help the students to be well prepared for the important external examinations.

While urging the participants of the football competition to be orderly, Honourable Pondi thanked the organisers of the programme for the excellent job done.

In the same vein, he urged the schools within the federal constituency to ensure participation of their students.

Part of the details as made available, shows that the opening match will be between Kiagbodo Football Club and Egodo Football Club, while the venue is Kiagbodo Stadium.

The brief but colourful event was witnessed by dignitaries from within and outside the constituency.
