ROYAL EXIT: A great monarch in Ijaw land goes home

By Ebi Perekeme

The Ebenanaowei of Oporomor Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Capt. Samuel Evah (rtd). Egran 1, has reportedly joined his ancestors.

The late Monarch’s son, Prince Michael Evah, who disclosed this to GbaramatuVoice, said the monarch, Egran 1, joined his ancestors on February 8, 2021.

The Prince noted that the news of his demise was kept from people of the kingdom in line with Ijaw tradition.

According to Ijaw culture, the death of a monarch is not always announced until after some rites are performed thus there has been no official announcement from his palace.

Egran 1, who ascended the throne of his forefathers in 1996, was a retired military captain.

HRM was described as a committed, progressive and an influential member of the Delta State Traditional Council.
