Information reaching the GbaramatuVoice is that war drums are currently beating in Rumuekini community, Obio/Apkor Local Government Area of Rivers state over land that some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, UNIPORT chapter, are trying to procure for staff quarters.
The land in dispute is said to belong to members of the Rumuawoncho clan in the area and measures over a thousand plots.
Speaking on the issue, the Chief Security Officer of the community – Comrade Emeka Samuel, said he was sending out a strong warning on behalf of the chiefs, elders and youths of the community to the UNIPORT chapter of ASUU to desist from the “unlawful purchase of the land to prevent crisis since they are passing through the wrong channel to carry out the purchase.”
Samuel urged them to follow the right channel by going through the genuine source to effect the purchase.
Some elders who spoke on the issue anonymously warned the intended buyers to be careful adding that the issue has been reported to the Rivers State Government, security agencies and the general public.
“We are law abiding and peace loving people in Rumuekini and would, therefore, advise anyone trying to engage in purchasing the land through the backdoor to desist instantly to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the community. The Rivers State Government and security agencies should take note,” they concluded.
