PROFILE OF HON. GEORGE U. TIMINIMI, THE SENATORIAL CANDIDATE OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE IN THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS

Hon. George U. Timinimi is an outstanding businessman, philanthropist cum politician with a strong penchant for academics, community development and peacebuilding. He is vying for the position of the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general elections.

His desire is to use the experience he gained over the years in leadership, business, community development and philanthropy to propagate viable legislations, projects and people-oriented programmes for the benefit of the people of Delta South Senatorial District.

Education

Born on 11th July, 1962 at Ubefan, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. George U. Timinimi began his educational pursuits at the Local Authority Primary School (now Kumpa Primary School), Ubefan (1971-1973) and Ekpebiwei Primary School, Forcados Terminal (1975-1977). Upon successful completion of his primary school education, he became the pioneer recipient of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) regular Secondary School Scholarship Award for Bright Students in Gbaramatu Kingdom, between 1977-1983. He attended Burutu Grammar School, Burutu between 1977-1984, Step Forward Secondary Commercial School between 1986-1987 and Erejuwa 2 Grammar School, Ode-Itsekiri where he obtained his West African Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) (1988). He proceeded to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt between 1989 – 1995 where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree (Management Option) in 1995.

Since completing his first degree at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port-Harcourt, Hon. George U. Timinimi who has a penchant for academics, went ahead to obtain a Masters degree in Communications Management from Delta State University, Abraka in 2008, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Benin in 2015 and two Masters of Law (LLM) degree from the University of Benin between 2017 and 2018, respectively. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in Faculty of Law, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.

Organizational Affiliations

Apart from his spiralling academic feats, Hon. George enjoys membership and fellowship of several reputable organizations both within and outside the country. To mention a few, he is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria (2016), a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom (2017), a Life Member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria (2016) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy & Management (2018). He is also a Life member of the West African Research Association (WARA) with headquarters in Dakar, Senegal.

Political Career

As a politician, Hon. George Timinimi has been a foremost personality in community, State and National politics and has held several elective and non-elective positions therein. Some of these positions are; Chairman – Screening Committee of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State (1996-1997), the first elected Vice-Chairman, Warri South West Local Government Council, Ogbe-Ijoh (1997-1998). He was a Special Assistant on Community Affairs to the then Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Chief James Onanefe Ibori (2003 – 2005), Chairman, Gbaramatu Community Development Committee (CDC) (Governor’s Office Annex, Warri) (July 6th, 2005 – Dec; 2010), a Member, Delta State Transition Committee that transited to power Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan (May 2007) and also a Member of the Sub-Committee on Peace and Security of the Transition Committee; the Chairman, Delta State Waterways Security Committee (May 31st, 2007 – November 2010), a Member, State Executive Council, Government of Delta State and Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources & Development, Delta State (August 2007- September 2009) and Member, Federal Government of Nigeria Committee on Peace and Conflict Resolution of the Niger Delta (July 2007 – 2009).

He also served as the Director-General of the Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru Campaign Organization (Delta State Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections), and was formerly leader of all Ijaws of the APC in the Ijaw Local Government Areas in Delta State.

Awards

Owing to Hon. George U. Timinimi contributions towards education, philanthropy and the cause of justice in different parts of the country, he has been conferred with gales of awards which includes Award of Doctor of Human Rights Advocacy (HONORIS Causa) by the European-American University (ALL AFRICA) Common Wealth of Dominica (28th April 2018), Honorary Fellowship Award of Doctorate Degree in Communication and Public Administration by the Institute of Journalism, Management and Continuing Education Enugu, listed by the World University of America (28th April 2005), Award of Excellence in recognition of his contribution to Humanity and Commitments towards the welfare of Students in Nigeria and the Niger Delta region courtesy of Students’ Union Government, University of Benin (February 11th, 2016), Award of Excellence (In Recognition of Outstanding Contribution Towards the Development and Empowerment of Aspirants of the Nigerian Bar) – presented by the Students’ Representative Council, Nigerian Law School, Headquarters, Abuja (2015), Award of Excellence (In Recognition of Outstanding Contribution Towards the Development and Empowerment of Aspirants of the Nigerian Bar) – presented by the Students’ Representative Council, Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus (2015), Award of Excellence (Distinguished Student of the Year) – presented by The Supreme Parliament of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State – 2014 and a host of other awards too numerous to mention.

Business Life

In business, Hon. George U, Timinimi is an outstanding investor and manager. He is the Chairman/C.E.O. of Sukunu Hydra Base Concept (SHBC) Limited, an oil and gas, electrical instrumentation and marine equipment leasing firm. This firm was one of the foremost companies that was engaged in the construction of the famous Escravos Gas to Liquid Project (EGTL) which is arguably the second largest project of its kind in the world. The firm currently undertakes running oil servicing contracts with Chevron, Shell and other multinational companies. He is also the Chairman of A.A, & T Security and Communication Services Limited and A.A. &T Oil & Energy Limited.

Community Development

As a foremost and distinguished community leader, Hon. George also serves as the President of the Gbaramatu-Egbema-Ogulagha Coastal Communities Front GEOCCF (A group which interfaces with Chevron Nigeria Limited for the development of communities impacted by Chevron’s offshore oil and gas operations), the President, Gbaramatu Development Front (GDF), the Spokesman Federated Niger Delta Ijaw Communities (FNDIC) and the Chairman, Burutu Grammar School Old Students Association.

Hon. George enjoys travelling, swimming, playing golf and reading.
