Panic As Soldiers Sack Ajakurama Community, Burn 15 Houses

There is pandemonium in Ajakurama community, Egbema Kingdom in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, following the invasion of the area by armed men believed to be Operation Crocodile Smile II of the Nigerian Army.

According to reports reaching GbaramatuVoice, over nine gunboats and several speedboats said to belong to the military Joint Task Force (JTF) allegedly invaded the community, part of the Egbema Kingdom, setting several houses ablaze.

Sources say there is tension among people of Egbema Kingdom over more attacks by the soldiers, reportedly targeted at Ajakurama and several other communities.

Mr. Powei Tebelatei, chairman of the community, who said he witnessed the attack on Ajakurama, told GbaramatuVoice that the furious soldiers entered the community with over nine gunboats, releasing heavy gunshots.

“It was about 8:30a.m on Monday when we saw over nine gunboats. When they got to our community, they started shooting into the community. I don’t really know what happened but JTF just came into the community, they came to me that they are looking for kidnappers, but I told them we don’t have kidnappers, before we know they started burning down over 15 houses community.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Egbema Kingdom have described as shocking the attack of Ajakurama community by military men, stressing that the incident was unwarranted.
