It is a fact that Okerenkoko, is completely an Ijaw-owned community, where the Nigerian Maritime University is presently situated, and the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa are fully convinced on that.

OPEN LETTER

OKERENKOKO LAND WHERE THE NIGERIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY, IS SITUATED BELONG TO GBARAMATU AND NOT ITSEKIRI.

IT IS TIME TO PUT AN END TO THIS UNNECESSARY AND FALSEHOOD LAND OWNERSHIP DISPUTE BETWEEN IJAW OF GBARAMATU AND ITSEKIRI.

OLU

Your Majesty, it is my pleasure and great honour to write this open letter to you on the above subject matter.

Sir, I have read in the media that a presentation was made at your palace to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, by Itsekiri leaders claiming ownership of Okerenkoko land.

However, it is very important to note that when the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa visited the permanent site of the Nigerian Maritime University, at Okerenkoko, it was only the people of Okerenkoko ( Ijaws) that were on ground to welcome the Vice President to their land, a clear affirmation that Okerenkoko, is completely an Ijaw-owned community.

Your majesty, till this very moment, I am yet to see any justification to why Itsekiri are claiming ownership of Ijaw communities in Gbaramatu kingdom.

There is no history or verifiable record indicating that Okerenkoko community land belongs to Itsekiri, no such record anywhere, and if there is any being circulated it is false.

Your majesty, Okerenkoko is owned by Ijaws of Gbaramatu and I strongly believe that not now or future will our people ever allow the Itsekiri to wrongfully and forcefully take from them their God-giving land.

For instance, the way Itsekiri are claiming ownership of Ugbolokposo community in the middle of Uvwie kingdom ( an Urhobo kingdom, that is exactly how the Itsekiri are claiming ownership of Okerenkoko community in the middle of Gbaramatu kingdom ( an Ijaw kingdom), which can never be possible.

There are things not thinkable because they can never be achieved. Irrespective of our tribes in Warri South West local government area, our priority should be how to bring developments to our various communities.

Your majesty, I want you to emulate the example set down by our Lord Jesus in the Bible book of Ephesians 2: 14-22, a scripture which dwells on the reconciliation of the Jews and Gentiles.

The story of the reconciliation of the Jews and Gentiles, should lead Ijaws and Itsekiri in Warri South West local government area, Warri North local government area to a permanent  peace and unity.

Your majesty, God fearing kings promotes peace and unity between their subjects and neighbours. Your reign should not cause more crisis or dispute between the Itsekiri and Ijaws in Warri South West local government area.

It is a fact that Okerenkoko, is completely an Ijaw-owned community, where the Nigerian Maritime University is presently situated, and the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa are fully convinced on that.

This is the time for us as a people to unite, live in peace and harmony, we should not create unnecessary problems for our unborn children, certainly we brought nothing to this world and we are taking nothing out of this world.

As traditional rulers, leaders it is our responsibilities to promote peace and unity among our people. I want us to plan a future where our unborn children would not segregate, but live in perfect peace and unity.

Finally, as a God fearing Itsekiri monarch, which I know, I sincerely plead with you to call your subjects to order, they should stop claiming unnecessary ownership of Gbaramatu communities; instead let us live as brothers in Warri South West local government area. It is possible !!!!

May God give you the wisdom of Solomon, which is the ” Spirit of Truth”, Amen.

SIGNED:

High Chief Micheal Johnny
APC Leader/ Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, Delta state.
