The Pan Niger Delta Forum(PANDEF) has warned those writing petitions against Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo to desist from such act and thus stop distracting him, saying that the action “are counter-productive to the laudable objectives of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme as they constitute distraction to the efforts of the current Coordinator who has shown great commitment to the re-positioning of the programme for optimal service delivery, in order to deepen the prevailing peace and security in the region, and create the enabling environment for sustainable development.”
Continuing in a statement signed by the National Secretary, Dr. Alfred Mulade, PANDEF asserted that the petitions “seemed to be politically motivated and targeted not only at the occupant of the office but intended to frustrate and derail the entire Presidential Amnesty Programme, and throw the Niger Delta region into another era of crisis for their ulterior purposes.”
PANDEF implored the youths of the Niger Delta region “not to allow themselves to be used by persons with ill intentions against the peace and stability of the region for their nefarious intentions, adding that “individuals and groups with genuine grievances should employ civil engagements to resolve such issues instead of resorting to unwholesome actions and nefarious tendencies.
“Without prejudice to PANDEF stance that persons saddled with responsibilities of managing resources of the people must demonstrate acceptable levels of accountability and transparency in the discharge of their duties, it is however completely unacceptable and condemnable for individuals or groups to under any guise employ mischievous and abhorrent frolics to discredit and tarnish the hard earned image of seasoned public officers, such as the instant petitions tended to achieve.”
PANDEF stressed that it is satisfied with the efforts and steps taken so far by the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
“He is consulting and engaging with a broad spectrum of critical stakeholders in a bid to improve citizens’ participation, transparency and accountability in the running of the affairs of the Amnesty Programme.”
