Building on its tradition of leadership in safety and quality compliance within the global pipeline industry, Geecoms Integrated Services Limited has been awarded with International Standard Organisation (ISO) 9001:2015; 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications for Quality Management System (QMS) by a global certification body, InterConformity Assessment & Certification Company.
The certification is coming after a detailed evaluation of the company’s operational processes and standards, which is a valid testament to Geecoms’ capacity to deliver quality services that conform to customers’ needs and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
With this certification, Geecoms Integrated Services Limited has affirmed its position as Nigeria’s foremost Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) service company.
As the indigenous leader in pipeline construction, the certification serves as a tacit endorsement of indigenous expertise, which has been supporting the operations of International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria since the activation of the Local Content Act.
Geecoms, which was established in 2006 has a critical role and mandate in project management, marine services, civil, mechanical, electrical and pipelines construction with an excellent track record in the oil and gas, and industrial sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Addressing guests at the certification presentation, Mr. Aribodor Churchill, consultants to Geecoms said in awarding this certification to Geecoms which covers provision of marine services, pipeline construction, equipment hire (land and marine) and engineering services has given the company an edge in the construction industries.
In his remarks, General Manager, (GM), Mr. Ovie Christian, described the certification as an encouraging achievement that will help Geecoms remain true to professionalism and operational integrity which are the ideals of the company.
“It is a step in the right direction. We were certified for three management systems known as the Integrated Management System. It is an encouraging achievement. It will boost up the advantageous position of the company to be competing with other companies, locally and internationally. With this certification the prospect is high. With regards to submission of tenders for jobs, it is going to give us an edge as this is what the technical guys are actually looking out for.”
ISO 9001:2015 is a quality standard with generic requirements that are applicable to organisations of different types, sizes and service/product orientations. Where any of its compliance requirements becomes inapplicable owing to the nature of an organisation, its products or services, exclusion can be considered.
However, where exclusions are granted, claims of conformity to ISO 9001:2015 are not acceptable, unless the exclusions are limited to requirements within clause 7, and such exclusions do not affect the organization’s ability, or responsibility, to provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Specifically, the ISO 9001:2015 standard helps organizations develop a Quality Management System (QMS) that ensures they meet customers’ quality requirements while continually improving their operational processes.
Therefore, organizations with ISO 9001:2015 certification have completely complied with the necessary requirements and demonstrated consistent ability to provide products that meet customer requirements as well as enhance satisfaction through effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system.
