Jubilation in Odimodi community as Abadezongo masqurade appears 10 years after
The people of Odimodi community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta state, were in ecstatic mood on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, as the Abadezongo masqurade appeared on the first day of the four day ancient festival, ten years after.
Some of the organizers of the cultural fiesta who spoke with GbaramatuVoice explained that why the community was thrown into wild jubiliation is that this particular festival was last celebrated in 2014, that is about ten (10) years ago.
They stressed that another reason for the community to be happy is that this year’s festival will see the worshipers enjoy the privilege of witnessing two different masquerades. The Abadezongo and Finkorobina.
GbaramatuVoice reliably gathered that while Abadezongo masquerade is charged with the spiritual responsibility of cleansing the community and worshippers alike, Finkorobina on its part represents the coming of peace to the community. The coming of Finkorobina significantly represents that peace has returned to the community.
Engr. Akin Benikurukuru, a worshipper of Abadezongo deity and Vice Chairman, Organizing Committee, in a chat with GbaramatuVoice explained that whoever participates in the cultural celebration, each time he/she is in need and calls on Abadezongo deity for intervention, answer or solution will be given to his/her needs.
Aside from the appearance of the Abadezongo Masquerade, other part of highlight that characterized the day’s actives was the famous Ogele cultural dance which saw members, men and women alike, clad in black and black regalia and processed round the major streets within the community.
On ground to receive guests and direct participants were members of this year’s planning committee and the community executive members.
