IYC YET TO FIXED A DATE FOR ANY NATIONAL CONVENTION – ERADIRI

•As IYC Chieftains insist convention must hold

The President of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide Engr. Udengs Eradiri have stated that the leadership of the Council is yet to fixed a date for a national convention.

This was contained in a statement today signed by the President himself, as he calls on all IYC members Worldwide to disregard the alleged meeting that had been billed to hold on the 4th of February 2017.

According to him : “The IYC Leadership has not fixed a date for a national convention. Mr. Mike Wenebowei,  Jephthah Kalati and Jeremiah Owoupele who signed the announcement calling for the purported convention do not have the powers to call for IYC convention or Congress.” Engr. Eradiri wonders.

He however, called on security agencies to call those calling for the meeting to order in order to avoid acts capable of causing breakdown of law and order while noting that such personalities does not have the capacity to call for a convention or Congress except his leadership.

The statement read in part, “The attention of the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC)  has been drawn to a purported national convention of the IYC fixed for the 4th of February, 2017 at Okrika, Rivers State. The leadership of the IYC call on all IYC members and the general public to completely disregard the purported convention.

“Ijaw youths should wait for the leadership to give direction and we also call on security agencies to call the above mentioned persons to order to avoid acts that may lead to breakdown of law and order.” He asserted.

Meanwhile, Gbaramatu Voice have learnt that there was a meeting conveyed by Mr. Ateke Tom, a very powerful and influential Niger Delta ex-agitator in Rivers State to discuss the way forward in the Council.

Sources hinted our correspondent that it was at the level of that meeting that Council members agreed to call for a National Convention at Okrika on the 4th of February 2017 to kick-start the electoral process that have been facing alot of set backs in recent times.

With this new development of debunking of the Okrika Convention by the President of the Council, it is not certain what the outcome might be as many IYC chieftains have continued to insist that the slated convention must hold.
