IYC Abuja/Northern Chapter Marks One Year In Office, lists achievements

The Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, Abuja/Northern Nigeria Chapter, has marked one year since the inauguration of the present executives at the Old Chelsea Hotel, CBD, Abuja, on 14 November, 2021. GbaramatuVoice reports. 

The event which had all the members of the council in attendance such as the chairman – Chief Diplomat Adam Ebimobowei Ogomugo Marbo, Tonte Ibraye – his vice, Churchill O. Amiekumo – the secretary, among others, was used by the chairman to list some of the achievements of the council after giving God the glory for everything – the wisdom, understanding and knowledge, they used in piloting the affairs of the council.

Some of these achievements were: successfully holding 2 congresses, calling 12 executive meetings, convening 6 stakeholders’ meetings, holding the maiden edition of the Ijaw Cultural Festival, successfully carried out the Boro Day, as well as a health check campaign.

Others include carrying out an IYC revalidation exercise where a data base was created and ID cards issued, and carried out training for council members.

24 forms were also made available to ‘Jambites’ while several marches were held to protest against the scrapping of the 13% derivation to the Niger Delta region by the National Assembly, etc which led to the Minister, Hon. Godswill Akpabio, visiting the region.

The council also provided affordable housing for the members.

On the way forward, the chairman said: “Finally, I want to sincerely assure all our council members that, the 4th Leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council IYC Abuja /Northern Nigeria Chapter’s ultimate aim and objective, is to create harmonious working relationships that will bring training and empowerment schemes, scholarships and employment for our unemployed Ijaw youths in the 19 Northern States in Nigeria.

“On behalf of the 4th Leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council IYC Abuja/Northern Nigeria Chapter, we thank you all for your unflinching contribution and support,” he concluded.
