WARRI ~ The National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS) in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to have a rethink and free the innocent youths arrested during the May 28th military siege of the Kingdom.
This was contained in a Press Statement signed and sent to Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper yesterday by the President Comr. Seiyefa Ekpemupolo who described the arrest as the highest level of impunity, persecution and oppression peddled against the Ijaws.
Comr. Seiyefa also sued for the immediate release of the youths he allegedly described as innocent and condemning the actions of the military as unprofessional and inimical to the progress of the Ijaw Nation.
The statement reads in part:
“The attention of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS) have been drawn to the continued arrest of the 10 innocent youths from Gbaramatu Kingdom during the May 28th 2016 military siege in the Kingdom.
“We have noted with rude shock that this is exactly 46 days since the Youths where whisked away from their sleeping beds. The Youths comprises Secondary School Students of Gbaraun Grammar School Oporoza and palace staff of our respected sacred traditional institution headed by Aketekpe, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom.
“We see this as high level of impunity, persecution and oppression of the highest order peddled against the Ijaws in a broad daylight. This is nothing but a clear exhibition of open hatred against us.
“As a student union body, we condemned the conduct of the military in the strongest terms and reject in totality of the iron fisted manipulation that is tactically managed and cruelly executed against us
“We demand the immediate release of our brothers as they are not members of the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers and has no ties or whatsoever to the group.
“Therefore, we are using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to have a rethink and order his Military to immediately free the boys because they are glaringly innocent. We are not slaves in this country for our military to be coming into our houses for arrests. We are not a conquered people or territory as our right to life has been severally violated by the seemingly inimical conduct of the military. We submit that our youths are innocent, hence should be freed contrary to the negative branding they are receiving from the military and some sections of the media.”
