NUC Approves Law Degree Programme for Edwin Clark University

The National University Commission(NUC) has approved the Law Degree Programme of the Edwin Clark University (ECU), Kiagbodo, Delta State.

Announcing the approval of the faculty of law to newsmen in Warri , the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Olagbemiro said the faculty of law of the university which has all the necessary facilities to take off was recently approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education respectively.

The elated VC said; “The University hereby announce the take-off of its Law Degree Programme, in the Faculty of Law, named after the Legal Luminary, Chief Fredrick Rotimi Alade Williams, in September, 2016. Our Law Degree Programme is kicking off immediately next month, September”.

According to him, ECU has recorded a number of achievements since inception, noting that the approval of the law faculty was another milestone achievement.

Prof. Olagbemiro said that the University was proud to state that it’s faculty of law is one of the best equipped in the country, adding that the aim of the university is to make it’s faculty of law one of the best in the country.

He said, “With all modesty, the university I am proud to state that it’s faculty of law is one of the best equipped in the country. It is equipped with both physical and electronic learning resources and optimally functional facilities, including a state of the art Moot Court and Law Auditorium. ”

He revealed that the ECU Faculty of Law was named after the legal luminary, Chief Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams.

The VC used the opportunity to inform members of the public, specifically suitable candidates that application for admission into the law degree programme may be processed either by hand through the University campus or online.

Professor Olagbemiro also stressed that the University was committed to its motto of knowledge and development that was why it has in place all facilities that make learning a worthwhile experience.

He also thanked the Chancellor of the University, Chief Edwin Clark, who he described as an outstanding personality who has sacrificed so much for the development of the institution.

He said through the magnanimity of Chief Clark, the Institution has been able to offer scholarship to the first one hundred students in the 2015/2016 academic session, adding that students with outstanding performance will remain in the scholarship till graduation.

Prof. Olagbemiro added that ECU was committed to global relevance through collaboration with foreign universities such as Coventry University, Coventry, UK and Chicago State University, Chicago, USA.

He said the foreign collaboration will avail ECU students the opportunity of having dual degree from the participating institutions and enable them participate in exchange programmes and seamless graduate admissions.

He added that ECU staff will also benefit from the foreign collaboration as it will encourage staff collaboration, exchange programmes and other various academic development interactions.

Also speaking at the press briefing, the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Allswell Muzan while commending Chief Clark for giving him the opportunity to head the faculty of law in the institution, promised to use his wealth of experience in academic to bear on the university.

Prof Allswell also noted that apart from the usual regular law courses, the ECU Faculty of law will run diploma courses which they will make available to other people who are not lawyers.

He revealed that the faculty of law has been given admission limit of Fifty (50) for
students for a start by the approving bodies,but added that the number will increase in few years to come.

On his part, the Chancellor of ECU University, Chief E. K. Clark, thanked Prof. Afe Babalola who he said helped the Institution financially to ensure that the Faculty of law of the university takes off.

Chief Clark said the university was the best legacy he could leave for his children in particular and Nigerians in general, adding that with the establishment of the university, his dreams have come true and his life fulfilled.
