YENAGOA- Youths in Nigeria, especially those in the Niger-Delta have been urged not to shower all the blames of the prevailing harsh economic situation in the country on its leaders as such can never right the wrong of the past.

Engr. Charles Ambaiowei gave this admonition to youths while speaking as Guest Lecturer in a programme organized by an NGO – New Horizons Aid & Development Initiative to mark the International Youth Day held at the Women Affairs Auditorium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Speaking on the theme, The Road To 2030: Eradicating Poverty And Achieving Sustainable Production And Consumption, Engr. Ambaiowei a one time Bayelsa State Commissioner for Works and immediate past Acting Chairman of the apex Ijaw socio-cultural organization- Ijaw National Congress, INC says that Nigeria’s desired development would never be achieved nor sustained unless its people are prepared to be productive.

The country, he remarked, has been one big consuming society hence its journey to sustainable development is yet to begin. Vibrant goal-setting and goal-getting youths, he stressed, remain the key to the country’s march to sustainable development as set by the United Nations sustainable development goals, and as such, Nigerian youths should live up to enviable standards in all they do so as to drive poverty away from their lives and that of their family and society at large.

The occasion which was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life had as its keynote the famous motivational speaker Mr. Ernest Sorgwe from Port-Harcourt who reminded guests that life is not about the size of one’s body but more about the size of one’s mind.

He urged youths to ensure that the enviable content in their head takes them ahead to achieve greater things for themselves and for the benefit of the larger society.

In her opening remarks, the CEO New Horizons Aid & Development Initiative Madam Ebi Owoubiri, remarked that unlike other animals that have gone extinct, Man has been able to survive all through the ages and to this point because our fore-bearers were able to turn around adversaries that confronted them to their advantage rather than allowing such to break their will to survive.

Youths of today, she charged, should take a cue from the successes of those before them and display their faculties to positive things that would bring joy and glory not only to themselves but also to their families friends and nation at large.
