Pandemonium In Delta As Pirates Attack Gbaramatu Chiefs

•Gbenekama Calls on JTF to provide security along that axis

Daredevil armed men suspected to be pirates attacked a speedboat belonging to Gbaramatu Traditional Council of Chiefs which was on official assignment, dispossessing them of their money and other personal effects.

Narrating the incident to our correspondent in Oporoza, Mr. Ebi Friday who witnessed the incident explained that it occurred on Thursday at about 8.00am along Batan Creek of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Also speaking on behalf of Gbaramatu Kingdom, the Ibe-Benemowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama told GbaramatuVoice on the telephone that the bandits used a speedboat to ambush the Gbaramatu Traditional Council boat and hijacked it  before sailing to an isolated place in the mangrove where occupants were robbed of their belongings.

Chief Godspower Gbenekama who is the spokesperson, Gbaramatu Traditional Council of Chiefs, further stated that about six men in a speedboat armed with sophisticated guns attacked the boat.

According to Chief Godspower, the boat was conveying two respected chiefs who were on official assignment on behalf of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Giving a telegraphic of how they were disposed of their belongings, he added that the Chiefs were first taken to an isolated place, asked to close their eyes before subsequently dispossessing them of their money and other personal effects.

Chief Gbenekama complained that Gbaramatu people have continued to suffer in the hands of hoodlums unabated without any form of intervention from the security agencies.

Also, GbaramatuVoice learned that after the gruesome incident, the suspected sea pirates dropped all the Chiefs at the mangrove forest and made away with their boat thereby leaving them stranded

Our correspondent gathered that help later came the way of the stranded chiefs when a boat operator coming from Warri assisted them in communicating with other chiefs in Oporoza town who now came and ferried them home.

Gbenekama finally appealed to the government to station some JTF gun-boats at strategic positions on the creeks route to Escravos to forestall further future occurrences.
