Marginalization: Gbaramatu Welders To Shutdown Chevron in Peaceful Protest

•We Have Notified The Military Authority – NWA

As part of the effort to press their demands home, the Nigerian Welders Association (NWA) Gbaramatu Unit,  an affiliate of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has set aside Monday, October 30, 2017 as a day for peaceful protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited’s obnoxious policies of exclusion.

This was made known in a chat with GbaramatuVoice recently by Kelvin Mulade and  Godspower Kosen Kuro-emi, the group’s President and Secretary respectively.

According to the group, “As law abiding citizens, we are embarking on a peaceful protest to Chevron Nigeria Limited in Escravos on the 30th October 2017.

Speaking further, the group stated that “the protest is necessitated by Chevron Nigeria Limited continuous neglect of us as a body in the ongoing project tagged the ’30” Pipeline Project’ that is ongoing in the region.”

According to the group’s President, Kelvin Mulade, “It is a surprise to us that after our incessant letters to Chevron Nigeria Limited and their contracting companies such as Gramen Petroserve, Delta-Tek and Natony Ltd, they still went ahead to ignore us as a body.

The above development, Comr. Godspower Kosen Kuro-emi, the group’s Secretary described as unacceptable and against the spirit of Local Content Development as preached in the sector.

NWA executives further explained that as a law-abiding association, they thought it wise to write the Commanding Officer 3 Battalion Commander, Warri, and other security agencies before embarking on the peaceful protest so that he can equally put his men on notice.

The group, therefore, appealed to the military authority to possibly provide them with the needed protection on the day of the  planned peaceful protest.
