KIDNAPPED MISSIONARIES: IYC calls for immediate and unconditional release

…We must get to the root of the matter-Omare

…Calls for collaboration with traditional leaders, others

Reacting to the news of the recent kidnap of the four foreign missionaries at Enekorogha community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has called on the suspected militants or whosoever to immediately effect their release unconditionally.

This was made known by the factional President, Barrister Eric Omare when he visited the GbaramatuVoice corporate headquarters in Warri, Delta state on Thursday, 19th October 2017.

According to him, “It is criminal and highly condemnable for foreign missionaries who were offering free medical services and preaching the gospel of God in the riverine areas of western Ijaw to be kidnapped”.

The IYC president further stated that there is no justification whatsoever for this ungodly action. It has nothing to do with the Ijaw or Niger Delta agitation hence it must be condemned by all well-meaning people.

While declaring the group’s resolve to getting to the root of the matter, Omare emphatically stated that IYC will collaborate with security agencies, Ijaw traditional and community leaders in and around Enekorogha and other Ijaw communities in Burutu Local Government Area to fish out the perpetrators of this criminal act.

IYC, therefore, directed their clan and community structures in Esembiri, Oporomor, and others to take actions towards release of the kidnapped missionaries.

While condemning the act, he pointed out that criminal conducts such as kidnapping and killing of innocent people are neither part and parcel of the Ijaw culture nor the Ijaw struggle for freedom.

The IYC President finally called on Ijaw traditional and community leaders to be vigilant so as not to allow criminal element the freedom to operate while adding that criminal conducts are bringing disrepute to the communities involved and driving away development from the communities concerned.
