Dialogue With Tompolo, Niger Delta Activist Tells FG, Army, Others

•Tompolo is the most trusted name in Niger Delta region

•He can assist the government to curb restiveness in the region

As a way out of the impasse between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Niger Delta Avengers and the counter threat of the Nigerian Navy to tackle it, Comr. Bakumo Ellinton has called for a dialogue between the government and High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

He stated this in Warri today in a chat with newsmen.

According to Comr. Bakumo Ellinton, who is also a Niger Delta activist said “When two elephants fight, it is the ground that suffers.

Similarly, he opined that if this escalate, it is the innocent people in the riverine communities, poor citizens and the Nigerian economy that would suffer.

In his words, “I would want to believe that the Federal Government wants none of this, because as a government, it is its responsibility to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians irrespective of their tribe, religion or region.

He further explained that Tompolo is the most trusted name in the entire Niger Delta and in Ijaw land, adding that his charisma and presence calms agitated minds.

Continuing, the member of the Committee for Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) added that his name alone sends chills down the spines of troublesome people and it was said that while he was still in charge of security, there was relative calm in the waterways.

Speaking in the same vein, Comr. Bakumo pointed out that Chief Tompolo is one of the very few if not the only one that the riverine people trust to protect them and their interest.

He further told our correspondent that if the Niger Delta Avengers are fighting for the good of the people as much as they claim, then Tompolo would be the best representative to engage them in dialogue.

“If the government wants to protect national assets, I would advise that they try as much as possible to engage Tompolo in dialogue,” he added.

Comr. Bakumo finally stated that the best person to assist the government in tackling restiveness, piracy, kidnappings and any form of criminality in the riverine areas of the Niger Delta is no other than Tompolo as he is fondly called.
