DANGER LOOMS AS UDU BRIDGE IN DELTA IS AT THE VERGE OF COLLAPSING

•Udu bridge no longer a bridge but a dead trap

Road users in Warri and Udu Areas in Delta State have yesterday called on the Delta State Government to immediately come to their rescue as the essential bridge is collapsing.

When Gbaramatu Voice visited the bridge for on the spot assessment, it was learnt that the bride is in a terrible condition as most of the guard rails have collapsed owing to the duration of time, the bridge itself is shaking when heavy vehicles passes through it.

In contributing to the already finished state of the bridge, our correspondent gathered that there was a reported accident recently in the bridge as a vehicle carrying rice and other goods ran through the guard rails, thereby damaging parts of the bridge that has already been struggling for survival.

Speaking to Gbaramatu Voice was a tricycle driver, Mr. Abraham Fejiro who ply the rout stressed that the Udu bridge in Udu Local Government Area of Delta is a major route that leads to many towns and villages, Aladja, Kiagbodo, Ughelli, Warri, Otujeremi, Ogbe-Ijoh with the host of other major communities and cities in the State.

Mrs. Esther Kevwe on her part called on the Delta State Government and other developmental agencies to do something positive about resuscitating the bridge before the worse will happen.

According to her, Udu bridge is no longer a bridge, but a dead trap, she explained that it was by the grace of God that people pass through it without issues.

“As I speak to you, it takes the grace of God for anyone to pass through this bridge, it is no longer a bridge but a dead trap, I think its old age that is telling on it, there are no more rail guards, if nothing is done about it, nobody knows the ugly fate that awaits us all. I am using this medium to call on Government at all levels to as a matter of urgency wade into this life threatening situation by reconstructing the bridge to save lives “.
