COMMUNITY DECRIES AGE LONG NEGLECT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL

•Calls on Governor Mimiko for renovation.

The people of Taribor community, Tubutoru kingdom in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has urged Governor Olusegun Mimiko to rescue the dilapidated government owned primary school from extinction.

While speaking to Gbaramatu Voice, The Amananawei of the community, Chief Monday Ebiye alleged that St. Timothy A/C Primary School was founded in 1945 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) before it was taken over by the government and since its existence it has always being a six rooms primary school block, while urging Governor Mimiko to rescue them from the gloomy situation by rebuilding it to the standard it deserves.

Chief Sunday Legere, chairman of the community noted that the school has been affected by rain due to leakages from the roof that has completely collapse a classroom out of the six class rooms that was built.

Meanwhile, he added that the community have over the years been making several efforts to amend some part of the school for pupils to be able to have their normal classes but now he said it has gone beyond community effort and hereby call on the State Government to construct a standard mega primary school in the community.

In similar manner, Chief Julius Ogoba, the Miekremowei of Tubutoru Kingdom on his part maintains that the school has only one teacher who doubles as the headmaster while alleging that the community had been responsible in employing the services of improvised teachers, a burden they have carried for several years.

He therefore, appealed to the State government to deploy more teachers and rebuild the school in order to boost primary education in the community.

The chairman Parents Teachers Association, PTA, Chief Andrew Gbaluke added that the three rooms staff quarter that was built has also been affected by erosion that led to its collapse.

He however, decried the high level of non payment of teachers salaries that is also telling negatively on primary education across the State.

Gbaluke also noted that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members should be posted to the community to assist the teachers because since the inception of the school NYSC members has not been posted to the community by the local government.

He further called on the Odigbo Local Government Universal Basic Education Board to try and post corps members to the school this year and also to visit the school to see its lamentable condition.
