Hon. Ebimaye Lauds NDDC Initiative To Build Women Development Centres

  • Calls on Commission to extend programmes to creeks

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, commitment to building and equipping women development centres across the Niger Delta, as part of measures to developing women capacity in the region has been lauded by a business mogul cum politician, Honourable Ebimaye Bebenimibo.

Hon. Ebimaye while lauding the NDDC for its bold step, also called on the Commission to extend its empowerment programmes to women in the creeks.

The business woman, who is aspiring for Delta State House of Assembly come 2019, under Burutu North Constituency, said women in the riverine communities are basically into agriculture through fishing, hence they most needed empowerment.

According to Hon. Ebimaye, women in the riverine communities have been denied of many benefits when compared to their counterparts in the urban and upland areas, stressing that as Nigerians and Nigeria women, whatsoever benefit given to the women in the uplands should be given to the women in the riverine area.

The business mogul cum politician promised to work closely with the NDDC and other concerned stakeholders in order to correct the anomalies and injustice done to women in the creeks.

She said her desire to represent the good people of Burutu North Constituency, in Delta State House of Assembly was borne out of her desire to giving women voice in governance, particularly Burutu North Constituency women.

The Managing Director of NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere, while playing host to members of Forum of Niger Delta Women, FNDW, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday had promised to build and equip women development centres across the Niger Delta as part of measures to develop women capacity in the region.

The NDDC Chief Executive Officer also promised the Commission would work closely with the women forum on the programmes designed for them in the Niger Delta, especially in the area of skill acquisition and training in agriculture.
