ISO 9001:2015 is a quality standard with generic requirements that are applicable to organisations of different types, sizes and service/product orientations. Where any of its compliance requirements becomes inapplicable owing to the nature of an organisation, its products or services, exclusion can be considered.

However, where exclusions are granted, claims of conformity to ISO 9001:2015 are not acceptable, unless the exclusions are limited to requirements within clause 7, and such exclusions do not affect the organization’s ability, or responsibility, to provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Specifically, the ISO 9001:2015 standard helps organizations develop a Quality Management System (QMS) that ensures they meet customers’ quality requirements while continually improving their operational processes.

Therefore, organizations with ISO 9001:2015 certification have completely complied with the necessary requirements and demonstrated consistent ability to provide products that meet customer requirements as well as enhance satisfaction through effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system.
