GbaramatuVoice 7th Anniversary: Timipre Sylva bags Niger Delta ‘Man of the Year’ Award

The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva  has bagged the prestigious GbaramatuVoice ‘Niger Delta Man of The Year, 2022’ Award.

The presentation happened during the newspaper’s 7th Anniversary ceremony at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre of the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday.

The event, which was marked with fanfare, had distinguished personalities across the social, political and business circles within and outside the country in attendance.

The GbaramatuVoice Public Administrator of the Year 2022 Award on Education was conferred on the Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Efiong Akwa.

The Publisher of GbaramatuVoice newspaper, Mr. Jacob Abai, acknowledged Sylva as ‘a true son of the Ijaw Nation, the Niger Delta region and Nigeria’

The paper made it clear the award was an apt reflection of Sylva’s stride towards developing the Niger Delta region and also a concrete reflection of the Minister’s ever soaring acceptance by his people.

Special recognition was given to the historic passage of the PIA 2021 act and the massive mileage this administration has registered in pushing Nigeria to cheaper, cleaner energy sources and the much needed uncluttering of the Petroleum sector.

“As Governor of Bayelsa State, Sylva was the star-man in the peace deal between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Niger Delta ex-agitators, the negotiations, delicate and technical, saw peace return to the region after years of anxiety. That peace is sustained to this day.”

“Our region has felt the impact of having a Minister, and as the foremost Ijaw paper, we so honour him for his good representation and selfless service to his country and to his people,” GbaramatuVoice said in conclusion.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Minister, the Acting Permanent Secretary Of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Engr. Busari Karamu spoke “The minister is extremely humbled to have received this award from the storied Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper. It is a paper we all take very serious because it has consistently, for seven years now, stood on the path of truth, balance and quality reportage.

‘It has, also, presented the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta region fair towards the world. Not with too much embellishments but in a way that shows our regions strengths, also, aspects that can be improved upon.”

“In general, I believe Nigerian journalism has come of age. There are so many competent outfits, so many well trained journalists and so much quality now. I commend the contemporary Nigerian  Press, Gbaramatu Voice belong to this renaissance and I truly appreciate that,” he concluded.
