There was near-confusion at Thursday’s hearing into the lingering fuel crisis rocking the nation at the Senate, as the crisis rocking the Independent Marketers Petroleum Association of Nigeria came to fore again, as three individuals presented themselves as the President of the association.
Three combatants are Sanusi Fari, Chinedu Okorokwo and Obasi Lawson, who have been involved in various litigations, which supposedly came to an end with a court judgment recently, all came to the hallowed chambers, ready to represent the association.
The public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), which was televised live on national Television, quickly doused the tension, at the venue as it granted only the Executive Secretary of the association, Aminu Abdulkadir, to speak on behalf of the association
A faction had on Thursday said the crisis rocking the association was over with a ruling of the Court of Appeal declaring Chinedu Okoronkwo as the president.
Meanwhile, a faction of the body represented by its, National Secretary, of the body, Alhaji Danladi Passali, has issued a statement confirming the end of the crisis, after the National Executive Council meeting of the association on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement commended a recent Appeal Court judgment in Abuja, which declared Chinedu Okoronkwo as the national president of the association.
Passali has stated that the new development would address the issues of misconduct and mismanagement, which they say, is currently rocking the association.
He said that Okoronkwo remained the substantive national president of IPMAN based on the Appeal court judgment in the suit number: No CA/A/397/2014.
According to him, the Appeal Court re-affirmed the judgment of the Federal High Court judgment, Federal Capital Territory, in the suit No FCT/HC/CV/1479/2016.
He said; ”The judgment will enable us maintain the serenity we normally enjoyed in the distribution and dispensing of petroleum products to Nigerians in all nooks and crannies of the country”.
