…Says Niger Deltans have the capacity to reduce prices of petroleum products if given the opportunity

…. Commends GabramatuVoice for Niger Delta Economic Discourse Series

The National Coordinator, Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), Engr. Jator Abido, has said that the disbanded artisans’ local refinery operators in the Niger Delta popularly called “Kpofire”, have the capacity to reduce prices of petroleum products in Nigeria and beyond, noting that if given the opportunity by the Federal Government, fuel and diesel can sell as low as N60 and N80 respectively.

He stated this during the GbaramatuVoice Niger Delta Economic Discourse Series held recently in Effurun, Delta state.

According to him, the current situation in the country, particularly, as it concerns to the cost of diesel, has shown that the recently stopped local refining of crude oil by the artisans in the Niger Delta region is taking a toll on the nation’s economy.

It also goes to show that these local refiners, if given the license, have the capacity and technical known-how to refine and sell fuel at N60, diesel N80 and kerosene N50, as well as exports gas to other African nations.

In his words, “My suggestion is that the local artisans refining license should be given to the owners of this kpofire camps, where the Federal Government will issue guidelines and other regulatory agreements that they should follow and any operator that defaults or contravenes the set guideline will have his/her license withdrawn.

Continuing, he added; “We can manage the oil and gas sector and bring the cost of production down to the barest minimum. During the time when the kpofire was in operation, the diesel used in Warri was sold for less than N200. It is a sign that we have the capacity to drastically reduce the prices of fuel, diesel, kerosine for Nigeria. Niger Delta region can sell fuel for as low as N60 per litre, diesel for less than N80 per litre, and kerosene for N50 per litre.

While he queried the Federal Government for consciously killing these skills, he boosted that Niger Deltans has the capacity to export these skills and products particularly to other African countries.

He therefore called on the Federal Government to accredit the Kpofire operators by giving them license.

He also commended the organizers of the Niger Delta Economic Discourse Series, the GbaramatuVoice Newspaper, for bringing this all important topic at this critical moment of national existence.

On the Presidential Amnesty Programme, he explained that the maritime sector, the NIMASA, is supposed to have a section of waterways security as a department that will engage them for 35years.

Jator insisted that the President Amnesty Program(PAP) is not going to end, because if It ends, it means that the government has failed on their part of the bargain.
