Fix Effurun Roundabout Campaign: How Okowa, Omo -Agege, Fashola, Others Failed Niger Deltans

By GbaramatuVoice Editorial Board

It is now a well known fact among Deltans and visitors to the state that there exists infrastructural collapse in Delta state. Across the sphere, from Delta Central to Delta South-even the Delta North senatorial district where the current Governor of the state hails from is not left out of these tails of woe.

Effurun roundabout remains an emblematic case in point.

Looking at the referenced roundabout and the deplorable pains and government’s failure to fix the bad portion of the road has subjected commuters/travelers, we shall, as watchdogs of the society and as members of the fourth estate of the realm, be failing on our duties if we do not add our vocal voice to declare that no tier of government or public office holder in the country can boost of clean hands in the present sad circumstance.

Even at the risk of repetition, we are compelled to mention the following as culpable: Local, State and Federal Governments.

Also, public office holders in no particular order, that failed Nigerians in this particular circumstance includes but not limited to, namely: President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Executive Governor of the state, Raji Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, Senator Ovie Omo Agege, Deputy Senate President (DSP), representing Delta Central Senatorial District where the present mess is located, among others.

For a better understanding of the present commentary, “watchdog of the society,” in the journalistic palace protects some group of people living in a certain geography or location.

It means media professionals and organizations are to watch and not to be watched over. They are to watch over crimes, injustices, malpractices, and every other act that is deemed unfair and unlawful. Professionally, we at GbaramatuVoice are competent to carry out these duties. It is clearly an injunction that we should not suppress or misstate information that will help the government know what the masses need and think. Discharging this particular responsibility should be void of external interference, control, or manipulation.

Regardless of what others may say, our objective here is neither to chastise a particular political party nor leadership. Rather, the present intervention stemmed from the burning desire to ensure that quality governance and the dividend of democracy is delivered to the good people of the state at the right time and space.

It is an age long axiom that citizens of every nation, whether democratic or otherwise, hunger for ‘public sphere’ where the issues of the public interests are appreciated as central, and openly considered, discussed or debated.

This is exactly what GbaramatuVoice has provided.
