Guwor renders one year scorecard

My One Year score card

By Emomotimi Dennis Guwor

Yesterday makes it exactly one year since my inauguration into the 7th Delta State House of Assembly as an Honourable member to represent the good people of Warri South West State Constituency. I consider it as an election of grace to carry the mandate of the people; taking on one of the noblest duties – the task of making laws for the people and attracting the much needed development. I continue to learn the vital lessons that come with challenges of responsive and innovative leadership. It has been most fulfilling.

Today I celebrate my first service year anniversary at the Delta State House of Assembly in honour of the very ideals that I represent – “to ensure that people everywhere have access to opportunities and privileges that make them fulfil their God-given potentials and dreams in life. This is how I define leadership. People first.”

A brief recount (June 10, 2019-June 9, 2020):

1. Education is critical to creating a prosperous and secured future for the next generation. On the 19th December, 2019 we laid the foundation for the Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis Free Jamb Form project through the GUWOR EMOMOTIMI FOUNDATION (GEF). So far we have committed over US$20,000.00 to support university prequalification process of about 500 potential degree seeking students from Warri South West. In addition to the free jamb/registration, the students were provided academic mentorship through lectures from expert tutors. Four weeks of intensive lectures were held across the entire local government and reports from the projects have been encouraging from the JAMB exams.

Successful students will qualify for the GEF Star Scholarship. My plan is to commit US$100,000.00 endowment fund to support this initiative (the GEF Star Scholarship) for the next four years on a phase basis. The education and future of our children is dear to my heart.

2. Good health is imperative to building a progressive society. In the event of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we demonstrated our efforts to safeguard the health of our people. In addition to taking on voluntary sensitization of keeping safe during this period, I also donated basic medical supplies and made relief contributions (food stuffs) to the people of Warri South West on the 27th March and 18th April 2020 respectively. I continue to stay in touch with my people to ensure that we achieve zero Coronavirus in the Constituency by supporting initiatives that do so.

3. We must make concerted efforts to keep the environment safe and secured for prosperity sake. In the fight against the incessant pollution of the environment of our people/riverine as a result of oil/gas exploration and the ugly event of dying fishes along the shoreline of river Forcados, Escravos and their tributaries, I moved a motion in pursuant of Order VIII, Rule 43 of the Delta State House of Assembly Rules as a matter of urgency calling on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa to urge His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to ensure the underlying issues behind the menace are addressed. The motion which was raised on the 13th of March 2020 on floor of the House generated the much anticipated support and influence. It made its way into several national dallies/newspaper and attracted relevant authorities to launch investigation and ultimately addressing the issue.

4. Took proactive steps and secured gainful employments for youths in reputable government institutions.

5. Strategically facilitated the process that attracted major community development projects to my Constituency. These projects hope to address deficiencies in housing, power/energy, road infrastructure and education. Major constituency’s projects are still underway.

6. The next phase as captured in our crystal development plan is to focus on economic empowerment for our people (youths and women). This aspect of our project will be focused on skills acquisition and talent development through training and provision of business grants. Our target is to create 200 successful small and medium scale businesses and in turn 2000 direct and indirect jobs in the next 3 years.

While I continue to enjoy the warmth messages from our people in acknowledgements of the little we have done, I must say that it is a vision in progress. More is yet to be done. I am most grateful to my colleagues at the Delta State House of Assembly, leaders, youths, women and the entire Warri South West.

Thank you for your prayers and continuous support. The vision remains to create a most desirable future for our people and it can only get better. Let’s continue to work together to make this possible.

Thank you and God bless.

Hon. GUWOR, Emomotimi Dennis, Member Representing, Warri South West State Constituency, Delta State House of Assembly.
