As the date of Delta State Local Government election draws near, youths from Egbema Kingdom in the Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State have threatened to resist any further socio-political and economic marginalisation in their community.
The youths also petitioned Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over what they tagged “the endless marginalisation of the kingdom” in the choice of the local government chairman.
Rising from a meeting summoned to x-ray the political and economic future of the kingdom held in Sapele, the youth expressed displeasure over the alleged marginalisation of their community.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, the convener of the meeting, Mingo Friday, appealed to Okowa to be just and fair to the people of Egbema.
While noting that the level of neglect suffered by his people was “shameful and worrisome,” Mingo said Egbema youths were ready to resist any form of their continued political and economic enslavement.
Mingo stated, “Egbema people have been deprived of producing the Warri North Council chairman since the creation of the local government area. Egbema indigenes have been deprived of producing a member at state House of Assembly.
“We have been neglected in the appointment of the Commissioner, Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission; chairman and member of the Federal House of Representative, etc.”
