Delta Deputy Governor donates N1m, sports kits, to hometown

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro has said that the state government was committed to ensuring that talents from the riverine communities were harnessed and integrated into the larger sporting community.

He said this during his visit to Okerenkoko community, Gbaramatu Kingdom of the State on Sunday, June 30, where he splashed  millions of Naira and donated complete football kits to Amaseikumor cup champions – Okerenkoko community team won the competition and Oporoza came in second.

The supporters of the teams alongside the players, women and youths, were on victory parade on Sunday, as the deputy governor and his entourage, arrived Okerenkoko.

Otuaro, while addressing the crowd, congratulated with all the  teams that participated in the tournament. He encouraged them not to relent, but should build themselves mentally and physically, in preparation for opportunities.

Otuaro said, “I want to especially congratulate with the first runner-up and of course the champion of 2019 Amaseikumor football tournament.

“Sporting fiesta in any part of the world is a phenomenon we can not over emphasize, because it goes to build you mentally and strengthen you physically; talent in this part of the world needs to be scouted for and harnessed for sport profitability.

“As a government, we will do all in our power in ensuring we enhance the harnessing of these very raw fresh talents in this part of the world, so that we can integrate you to the larger sporting community.”

The deputy governor continued by telling the champions to put their best into what they where doing. Adding that they should always take time to practice to bring out their very best.

In his words, “The world out there is waiting for talented persons. So, if you have excellent talent, people are watching, and waiting for you.

“It is my prayer that some day, some how, your talents will be noticed, and it will be harnessed and incorporated into the fiesta of football scheme all over the world, and your name will be hard.”

The Winners of the 2019 Amaseikumor Cup, Okerenkoko Yankee FC received the sum of N500,000; while the second place winner, Oporoza United FC, was given N350,000. This was in addition to the complete football kit they both got.

The referees were not left out of the scheme as they were also given the sum of N150,000 for their outstanding performance during the football tournament.

The deputy governor was joined by member representing Warri South West Constituency, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, Delta South PDP chairman, among others.
