EXCLUSIVE: Egbema communities where Okowa is not considered as their governor

By GbaramatuVoice Editorial Board

It was meant to be a conventional fact finding mission by the GbaramatuVoice team to Egbema communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta state, on Sunday, September 25, 2022. But at the end, the visit to the communities became more revealing than envisaged.

Welcome to sleepy but egalitarian Egbema communities faced with social difficulties with no record of survival except if the Delta State Government and of course, other relevant agencies repent of their sins of neglect and do something theatrical to save and serve the people of the kingdom.

We also invite you to read the account of these oil bearing communities that house operational facilities of over three International Oil Companies (IOCs), but has nothing in physical or material terms to show for it.

Where students go to school, yet no learning takes place due to the dilapidated environment called school, visibly stripped of 21st century learning infrastructures with shortfalls in teacher-students ratio.

Tragically unique is the awareness that the communities currently exemplify a settlement were poor leadership on the part of the state government have not only impacted negatively but drained peoples will and now left with weakened rational character and less hope for the future.

Surrounded by water but none to drink due to the degree of pollution, no electricity, no pipe borne water, no good road and totally disconnected from the ‘upland’.

Where many of the indigenes did not acknowledge Governor Okowa as their leader. Even those that did, have neither respect nor kind words for him.

Journey with us as we share our experience about an environment where indigenes are decimated each time it rains, where the people cannot give befitting burials to their departed loved ones due to flood occasioned by the persistent inability of the government to dredge the rivers within the communities. A failure that have rendered the entire kingdom as flood prone.

Shocking details in a moment…
