Ex-NDDC boss, Aginighan, blames Dickson for INC crisis

The Founding Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress, Pastor Power Aginighan, has attributed the crisis rocking the body to the failure of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, to act fast and resolve the disagreement among members.

Aginighan explained that every sitting governor of the state had always been a rallying point for the development of the Ijaw strategic agenda.

He pointed out that Dickson was aware when the disagreement in the INC degenerated into a situation where two presidents emerged from the group but failed to act.

The former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission argued that Dickson performed below the expectation of many Ijaw nationalists in his handling of the crisis in the apex Ijaw body.

Aginighan expressed optimism that with the recent inauguration of a 20-man Ijaw National Reconciliation Committee by Dickson, the crisis would soon be a thing of the past.

He said, “Governor Dickson performed far below the expectation of so many Ijaw nationalists considering his pedigree as a former National Legal Adviser of the INC.

“He was aware when the seed of discord which blossomed into the most embarrassing tale of two INC presidents was sown early in 2015 but neglected to act. Every sitting governor of Bayelsa State will continue to be a rallying point in the development of the Ijaw strategic agenda.

“This has been so since 1999. All former governors of the state, namely (Diepreye) Alamieyeseigha, (Goodluck) Jonathan and (Timipre) Sylva played their parts in varying degrees in safeguarding Ijaw unity.”

He, however, expressed optimism that the crisis rocking the apex Ijaw group would soon be over considering the inauguration of a 20-man Ijaw National Reconciliation Committee by Dickson.

Aginighan said, “The recent inauguration of a 20-member Ijaw National Reconciliation Committee by His Excellency Hon Seriake Henry Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State is a right step taken too long behind time.

“I salute His Majesty King Alfred Diete Spiff and other members of the Ijaw National Reconciliation Committee for accepting to serve the Ijaw nation in a very trying moment of the history of the Ijaw.”
