Dickson was right ‎we need to work together ―IYC tells critics

•No rift between Dickson/Jonathan

THE Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has condemned enemies of Ijaw people who are bent on fanning the ember of hatred and disaffection by twisting Governor Seriake Dickson’s statement on the development of Bayelsa State and the Ijaw nation, describing them as saboteurs of the collective struggle for the accelerated growth and development of the state.

The IYC stated that there is no rift between Governor Dickson and former President Jonathan, stressing that mischief are only interested in heating up the polity in order to plant a frosty relationship between them where none exist.

The IYC in a statement signed by its chairman in the Central Zone, Comrade Bobolayefa Owoupele stated that Dickson’s remark at the Isaac Boro Day celebration was a clarion call for all political office holders to close ranks and work with the government to develop the state and the Ijaw nation.

Owoupele berated those who gave the statement a negative coloration, insisting that it was only meant to‎ tell Bayelsans in high places that irrespective of political affiliation, the state should come first in their thoughts and actions.

He said they listened with rapt attention at that event and came to a conclusion that the governor meant well and he never bereted former

President Jonathan, who incidentally is also his mentor, hence they have decided to stand with him particularly on the call that Ijaw sons and daughters holding sensitive political office should come together and work with the state government to move Bayelsa forward.

The IYC statement, warned detractors who are fanning the embers of hate to desist and declared that henceforth‎ they will no longer fold their hands and watch any Ijaw son or daughter abuse or under-utilize any office they occupy.

“Former President Jonathan would continue to be celebrated at home and Diaspora by Ijaw people for his heroic feat and for rising politically to occupy the number one seat in the country, by that feat we in Ijaw land can also boost of having a former president, an elders statesman in the council of former president in Nigeria,” Owopele said.

To this end, they declared their unalloyed support to the governor and also reaffirmed their loyalty to former President Jonathan, and called on all Ijaw youths shun attempt by saboteurs of Ijaw people to pollute their minds in a bid to polarize their strength through divisive tendencies.
