Delta LG Polls: PDP makes nomination forms free for female aspirants

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has made nomination forms for female politicians who would be running for elective position in the forthcoming 2018 local government elections in the state free.

However, the party pegged nomination forms for male chairmanship aspirants at N1 million and N200, 000 for councillorship aspirants.

The party said the decision was to encourage women in the state to be actively involved in politics.

Speaking at a press conference in Asaba on Saturday, Chairman of PDP in the state, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, disclosed that the party has also directed its local government chapters to reserve at least three slots of councillorship candidates to female aspirants.

Esiso said money for the nomination forms were non-refundable.

The PDP chairman, however, stressed that the party would not discourage any aspirant from obtaining the nomination forms, especially those who are not satisfied with the outcome of the consensus arrangement or mock primaries.

He said, “Mock primaries or/and consensus arrangement are geared toward reaching a common ground and avoiding unnecessary spending of money by aspirants.

“We have asked our leaders to harmonise in their various wards. But that does not stop anybody who is not satisfied with the outcome of such arrangement from obtaining nomination forms to contest the party’s primaries.”

The elections will hold on January 6, 2018.
