DELTA 2023 GOVERNORSHIP: There is nothing like zoning, all can contest – Rep Pondi

The lawmaker representing Burutu Federal Constituency, Hon. Julius Pondi, has stated that there is nothing like zoning in Delta state.

GbaramatuVoice recalls that as the 2023 election approaches, there have been claims and counterclaims concerning the issue of zoning.

It was earlier rumored that since the three senatorial zones have had a shot at the government house, it is right that the incumbent governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, will hand over to an Urhobo politician to start the cycle afresh again based on the principle of zoning.

However, those against this idea had stated that there is nothing like zoning in Delta State and what is obtainable is a “gentleman’s agreement”.

Joining the fray, Hon. Pondi, speaking with newsmen at the just-concluded maiden launch/unveiling of Congress Newspaper held in Warri stated that the 2023 election is for everyone as there is nothing like zoning.

He said: “Come 2023, all of us can contest. Whoever that emerges, we can form a team from there.”

The lawmaker was of the view that candidates from the various senatorial districts had previously contested the governorship elections in previous years and a winner emerged.

He added: “Have you seen the declaration made by the central in 2014? If there was zoning, what was that declaration for? Whoever becomes the governor is a Deltan.”
