Delta 2023: Braduce Angozi declares interest, vows Ijaw would produce next governor

By Badmus Shina

A former Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture, who was also 2011 PDP Guber aspirant, Chief Braduce Angozi, on January 6, 2020, declared his intentions to contest the 2023 governorship seat in the state.

Angozi made his interest known during a round table discussion with newsmen at his residence in Warri, Delta State.

During the meeting, the former commissioner stated that the Ijaws should be given the opportunity to become the next governor to ensure equity, fairness and justice; adding that the Ijaws have supported other tribes in achieving their governorship ambitions in time past.

He also pointed out that his interest do not conflict with the Ijaw nation, as he will also welcome any worthy aspirant to take the mantle as far as it was an Ijaw man.

“I may not be the best Ijaw aspirant but what I believe is that Ijaw man must support Ijaw aspirants to become governor of our great state come 2023.”

While speaking on zoning, he said there was nothing like zoning and such idea should be dismissed. He added that he had been an active PDP member from 1999 till date and there was no such agreement ever made concerning Delta State governorship.

“People should stop saying we have zoning system because there is nothing like zoning in Delta State.

”There was no time the PDP in Delta State from 1999 till date had a zoning agreement. There was nothing like rotational/zoning agreement on whose senatorial zone to produce the next governor in Delta State.

“In the 2015, Chief David Edevbie of Delta central contested against Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa (and was from the same PDP in the primaries),” he concluded.

Angozi said he will be contesting but whether or not he wins, he wants an Ijaw man to be elected.

He emphasized the backwardness and developmental challenges facing the Ijaw people, even though they were the economic hub of the country.

To that effect, he called for synergy amongst Ijaws and Deltans as well, as one entity to support Ijaw agenda come 2023.
