A glance at Tantita’s pipeline surveillance contract, seven months after

By GbaramatuVoice Editorial Board

About seven months ago, the Federal Government of Nigeria in her wisdom, through the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), awarded a crude oil bearing pipeline surveillance Contract to Tantita Security Services Limited. So many reactions and criticism trailed such action by the government.

To GbaramatuVoice, the torrent of criticism more than anything else revealed that prosecuting the contract would involve a great deal of risk. Secondly, it brought to the fore the fact that the Niger Delta region was not as united as it looks.

The reason for the second observation was not far-fetched.

Fundamentally, there were people who wished the contract would fail. There were also people who clearly wished and were ready to go to any length to call on the Federal Government to revoke the contract. There were others who demonstrated not only their propensity to attack but hatred for Tantita as a company and the people behind the organization.

But despite this unprovoked hatred, the operators of the company focused on the national assignment, feeling that it was an opportunity for making a positive impact.

Today, GbaramatuVoice can say without fear of contradiction that If there is any decision taken in the last seven months by the Federal Government that has positively impacted the nation’s economy, promoted the healthy environment of the people of the Niger Delta region and appreciably improved the life chances of the people of the region, it is the ongoing pipeline surveillance contract in the region.

Despite these accomplishments and defined benefits of the contract, the attack saga and calls on the Federal Government to revoke the contract is not over.

What is not in doubt and a very good reason why the Federal Government will never listen to such deformed calls is how complicated and how backward the revocation of such a contract could take Nigeria’s economy on the one hand, and the people of the region on the other hands.

As the above feat is celebrated, GbaramatuVoice believes that the full reality of what the contract has saved the Nigeria government and Niger Deltans would be made clearer in no distant time. But in the interim, the short solutions provided by Tantita Security Services Limited, have indeed brought about a quick win for all sectors in the country- the economy, the clean-up of Niger Delta region as well as defined benefits of job creation.

It is on this note that GbaramatuVoice Newspaper calls on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to make this current initiative a sustainable one.

While that is ongoing, the newspaper also urge Niger Detans to support Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in its present quest to save the environment from chronic pollution, degradation and pollution.
