The chain of electoral activities currently running on our political turfs points to the fact that the build-up to the all-important general election slated for 2019 has commenced.
Such has become evidently visible in the Delta South senatorial district with Warri South West and other Ijaw communities as a case in point where countless aspirants have since declared with many still expected; a development that may spur the contenders to compete without thinking of cooperation in the pursuit of their personal ambitions.
The newspaper has however noted, looking at the previous experience that such posturing may further heat up the polity and as a result, lead to the anticipated political positions as well as the democratic dividend eluding the good people of the council.
Viewed from the above prism, GbaramatuVoice as a responsive and responsible media group, has found it imperative to call on the Delta State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, as he is currently the most politically exulted in the Warri South West Local Government Area and Delta South senatorial district to rise up to this responsibility of providing leadership that will ignite the atmosphere for collaboration, partnership and consensus among these contenders.
To create a good environment for this project to thrive, therefore, the newspaper is of the view that the State Deputy Governor must as a matter of urgency need to play this fatherly role as the risk associated with leaving this community organizing role to chance will definitely translate to placing the survival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to chance as well.
This calculation in our views is that, as the number two indigene of the state, and a political heavyweight in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it has become evidently important that all the aspirants can listen to him with the hope of forging a political harmony for the common good of the council.
It is, therefore, our observation, that vast majority of the people have not seen the rationale behind his Excellency’s reason for not staying close to his people at this critical moment to provide that rallying point to all the various contenders.
Although, it is not as if the Deputy Governor has not made efforts to build political harmony and oneness in the past, but no matter how noble those initiatives may have appeared, it will be political costly if he fails to give this 2019 electoral project in the local council, the needed attention because charity they say, begins at home.
Making this consented effort to bring the aspirants under one political umbrella will foster peace, oneness, and progress of the Ijaws in the council and the riverine communities.
On the other hand, if abandoned, the immediate result in the newspaper’s opinion will not only affect the nascent peace in the area but may, for example, strip the Ijaws of the opportunity to have one of their sons in the State Assembly or the House of Representatives
Again, if for instance, there is a breakdown of law and order among the contenders in the course of the electoral exercise caused by the inability of the political leader to foster harmony among the contenders, it will in our views, amount to the opening of a paradox box, whereby the Deputy Governor will be viewed in the public domain as a leader that is preaching peace but cannot have it enshrined in his domain.
To avoid such unpleasantness, therefore, we call on the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro to urgently bridge this existing leadership gap.
